IEC EN 60825-1 standard: safety of laser products
Equipment classification and requirements
This standard (norm) is responsible for the qualification of lasers and laser systems in their corresponding laser safety class 1, 1M, 2, 2M, 2M, 3R, 3B, 4 (lasers belong to a laser safety class, not a category).
It is applicable to the safety of laser products emitting in the wavelength range between 180 nm and 1 mm.
IEC 60825-1 norm is mandatory, especially for CE marking.
On the other hand, laser products used as components (OEM) of any system for subsequent sale are not subject to IEC 60825-1, since the final product will be subject to this standard.
If in doubt, consult the Laser Safety Officer (LSO) of your institution or workplace.
