UNE-EN 208: Personal eye protection.
Eye-protectors for adjustment work on lasers and laser systems (laser adjustment eye-protetors).
This European standard applies to laser adjustment filters and eye protectors. These are filters and protective eyewear used during adjustment or alignment work on lasers and laser systems, as defined in EN 60825-1:2007, where laser radiation occurs in the visible spectral band between 400 nm and 700 nm.
The filters specified in laser adjustment goggles according to EN208 reduce this radiation to values defined for class 2 lasers (≤ 1 mW for CW, continuous lasers).
Thus, laser alignment goggles do not completely block the beam but reduce it to non-hazardous values.
Remember, if you intend to align a laser outside the visible range you will have to wear laser safety goggles according to EN 207. To have the necessary protection and still be able to perform the adjustment consult the Laser Safety Officer (LSO) of your institution or workplace.
